Physical Education (BA, BS)

Why Study Physical Education?

The opportunity to instill the value of exercise and sport—which is known to benefit our mental and physical health—has grown increasingly critical as our nation faces mounting public health challenges. You will gain a scientific foundation in human movement and be prepared to become a teacher or coach, providing leadership in educational and recreational settings to help others develop athletic skills and healthy behaviors that will last a lifetime.

Faculty Spotlight:
Tony Quinn

For more than 34 years, Tony Quinn has turned physical education majors into skilled teachers who share knowledge with their students and go on to achieve leadership roles in the field.

Teacher Certification/Practicum Experiences

Students who want to teach physical education in elementary or secondary schools will complete the K–12 certification education sequence through North Park’s School of Education. Advisors from both the PE major and School of Education will make sure you are on track for the requirements you need—including student teaching experience in a Chicago public school, a private school, and a suburban school—to graduate ready to teach as a fully-qualified educator.

Being a part of North Park’s diverse community and taking full advantage of living in Chicago prepared Andra Hjelm Dalton C‘06 to work as a physical education teacher with colleagues and students from different backgrounds.
