Appalachia
Spring Break – $850
About the Trip
Spend a week in close community providing home repair care to a family in central Appalachia. A longstanding NPU experience, students on the Appalachia trip get to join ASP in their work surrounding home repair. The group will also participate in nightly worship alongside the partners. Cultural engagement will include education surrounding the Appalachian region and some of the causes of the widespread poverty and current drug crisis.
Partner: Appalachia Service Project (ASP)
Mission Statement:
Appalachia Service Project is a Christian ministry, open to all people, that inspires hope and service through volunteer home repair and replacement in Central Appalachia. Appalachia Service Project envisions the eradication of substandard housing in Central Appalachia and the transformation of everyone who comes in contact with this ministry.
ASP began in 1969 through Rev. Glenn Evans’ visionary mission of youth involvement and the dire need for home repair in Appalachia. Since 1969, nearly 400,000 volunteers have served alongside ASP, having repaired close to 18,000 homes. This opportunity has equipped those who serve not only with practical home repair skills but deeper connection to God’s work and the people and opportunities in Appalachia.
