Professor Ilsup Ahn has three core teaching goals: to develop students’ critical thinking abilities by interacting with them in and outside of the classroom; to facilitate a learning environment where students are comfortable sharing ideas; and to promote a transformational vision of our society by engaging in broad-ranging ethical issues.
“I believe a teacher’s role is to light a fire in the students’ intellectual curiosity and love toward truth. Teaching is my vocation and serving my students through teaching and research is my privilege.”
Faith is important to Ahn, a specialist in philosophical and religious ethics. He addresses philosophical issues of justice and human rights and students apply what they learn by engaging in various social issues in the Chicago area. “As a Christian ethicist, I understand and confess that the truth ultimately comes from God who is the source of all lives including the eternal life. I believe that I am called to serve God by helping people live out the truth and choose the good,” he says.
