Course Sequence

The English Major includes required seminar courses and a senior thesis.

See below for information on the frequency and block placement of these courses and block options

Literature Track

For information on the Literature Track course path for majors, please contact your English advisor. If you do not have an advisor, you can contact the chair of the department or reach out to any English professor for their availability and to request them directly.

Creative Writing Track

The Senior Seminar in Creative Writing (EN481) is a two-unit course available in blocks 3&4 or 6&7. Students are limited to taking EN481 once and must stay in the two joined block sequence. Creative Writing Track students must also take an advanced course in a creative writing genre (poetry, fiction, or creative nonfiction). Students can take more than one Advanced Genre course though priority will go to students who have not yet taken an advanced genre course for their major. All English Majors are required to take an EN499 Senior Project block. EN499 block information is available here

Creative Writing Track students are encouraged to take the Advanced Genre course in their junior year in order to take full advantage in selecting either the Fall or Spring senior seminar and an ideal EN499  placement. However, students can take the Advanced genre course in their senior year with limited EN499 choices as shown below.
