Frequently Asked Questions

How safe is the campus?

ºÚÁÏ³Ô¹Ï is located in a neighborhood that borders downtown Colorado Springs. The campus is in an urban setting and is not secluded. The college has historically been less susceptible to many violent crimes more prevalent in our principal cities and at larger colleges. However, one's safety should not be overlooked. We urge all members of the campus community to take responsibility and assist in safeguarding our community. For more information, click here to view the Annual Security Report.

Where is the Campus Safety office located?

Campus Safety operations, including dispatch, investigations, and parking are located at 1106 North Cascade Avenue (Round Building Formerly Boettcher Health). Campus Safety can still be reached 24/365 at all times by calling (719) 389-6707 or (719) 389-6911 for emergencies.

What is the staffing of the Campus Safety Department?

The Campus Safety Department consists of 23 Safety Officers who patrol the campus on foot, on bikes, and in vehicles. Three shifts work 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The Campus Safety Department reports to the Dean of the College/Chief Operations Officer.

What safety programs and services are available on campus?

Several safety programs and services are available on campus: "Safe Ride" program, "Self Defense" programs, "Safety Lighting" program, CPTED/Vulnerability Assessments, Sexual Assault Response and Support, Security/Safety Tips over campus e-mail, Timely Warnings/Security Alert Notices and Flash Messages, and Residence Hall programs.

What is Campus Safety's relationship with the Colorado Springs Police Department?

As part of our "Blended Model" of community policing, ºÚÁÏ³Ô¹Ï has formed a cooperative relationship with the Colorado Springs Police Department. We have a Campus Resource Officer assigned to the college who is on campus during normal business hours. After hours, the Colorado Springs Police help in patrolling the campus at those times when there is a higher likelihood of incidents. For instance, on Friday and Saturday nights, Colorado Springs Police Officers patrol throughout the campus and the immediate surrounding neighborhoods.

What should I do if I see suspicious or dangerous activity?

If you observe suspicious or dangerous activity immediately contact security at extension 6707 or 6911. Always give your location and the nature of the activity and be prepared to respond to the dispatcher's questions or instructions.

What should I do in case of a campus emergency?

In case of a campus emergency contact Campus Safety at the emergency number, extension 6911. If an individual requires immediate medical attention or you observe an actual fire in progress, first contact 911 and then contact Campus Safety.

Where do I obtain information concerning parking on campus?

Visit the "Parking Information" page.

If I bring a bike to campus, where can I store it?

Students may keep their bicycles in the bike racks outside each residence hall or inside their rooms, if space permits. Storage in the residence hall hallways is not permitted due to fire regulations. If you store a bike outside, we encourage the use of a heavy-duty lock, such as a U-lock, to attach the bike to a rack at all times. We also encourage students to register their bikes with our office. If a bike is stolen, registration helps campus safety and the CSPD to track and possibly recover it.

How long does Campus Safety keep found property?

Campus Safety will keep the found property for 20 days. If the owner of an item can be identified, every effort will be made to contact that owner via email, phone, or direct contact. Contact will be attempted three times. After 20 days, the found property will be deemed abandoned and disposed of.
