Cultural Attractions Overview

Purpose

To allow ºÚÁÏ³Ô¹Ï to offer a rich program of cultural and public attractions for the Colorado Springs community through public lectures, musical performances, drama, dance, film, opera, exhibits, etc.

The Cultural Attractions Fund seeks to foster collegiality between CC students, faculty, academic programs or departments, and the wider Colorado Springs community. The Cultural Attractions Fund provides grants for traditional and nontraditional activities that enhance Colorado Springs' cultural richness, are community oriented, and are free to the public or offered at a modest price.

Process

Who can apply: ºÚÁÏ³Ô¹Ï students*, alumni, faculty, and staff representing college departments, programs, or organizations may apply for event funding.

*Student requests will not be reviewed unless accompanied by a faculty or staff letter indicating commitment to serve as a sponsor and/or advisor. Funds will be distributed only to an official student group or to the Office of Campus Activities.

How applications are reviewed: A selection committee composed of CC faculty and staff considers applications and makes awards based on the proposed event’s ability to meet the criteria below. The selection committee meets three times per academic year.

Application Criteria: Your application to CAF will be evaluated using a rubric that scores applications on the following factors:

  • The extent to which they engage with the Colorado Springs community
  • If, when, and how much funding this program/project, or you, have received in the past, with preference given to new projects
  • The extent to which it addresses one or more of CC’s institutional priorities:  Institutional Strength (ensuring the college’s success and longevity for the next 150 years), Reclaiming the Liberal Arts (applied learning, civic engagement, and interdisciplinarity), Antiracism, Mental Health and Wellness, and Sustainability
  • The extent to which the program/event draws from a coalition of faculty, staff, students, and community members in its planning and/or implementation

A second funding request (i.e. a request for funds for the same event within 2 years) can only receive a set percentage of funding:

  • Requests over 10k can receive maximum funding of 50% of the total budget
  • Requests between 5,000-9,999 can receive maximum funding of 75% of the total budget
  • Requests under 5k will be considered for the full funding of the total budget

Requests to fund equipment, capital projects, instruments, sets, and similar items, are ineligible for Cultural Attractions funding.
