Special Collections Policies

Who May Use Special Collections?

All are welcome to use the materials in Special Collections. We are open weekdays 9-12 and 1-5. Non-CC researchers should contact us /library/special-collections/index.html for an appointment.

Please note: a great many of the materials relating to Colorado are duplicated in the general stacks, so you can try there first for a circulating copy. Additionally, many images from the collection have been digitized and are available here /library/special-collections/#digitized and elsewhere.

Interlibrary Loan

Special Collections cannot allow any of its materials to leave the building, so Interlibrary Loan is not possible. We will, however, assist remote researchers by providing reference help and, on occasion, photocopies or digitized scans. Contact the Curator for more information.

Photocopying

Only some of the materials in Special Collections can be photocopied. Whenever photocopying is possible, we will perform that service for a small fee. For a somewhat higher fee, we can also provide scans or photographs of some materials.

Permission to Publish

If you are simply quoting from published material in Special Collections, you do not need permission. If, however, you are quoting from manuscript material or you want to use an image of a photograph, manuscript, printed book, or anything else specific to Special Collections, you must fill out the Permission to Publish form.

Collection Development Policy

Special Collections has the same general objective as Tutt Library: to support the curriculum. In addition, we:

  • collect historical materials on Colorado and the Southwest
  • preserve the College's own archives
  • take care of rare books, manuscripts, photographs, and other
materials of unusual value, age, format, or condition

Donating Books or Papers

We acquire most of our rare books and manuscripts through gifts. If you are interested in making a donation, please contact us by mail, email, or phone. We will be very happy to discuss it with you! If we are able to accept your gift, you will need to fill out the Donor Agreement form.
