Office of Academic Programs

The Office of Academic Programs (OAP) promotes engaged teaching and learning, academic innovation, and student success. The OAP houses central academic programs at ºÚÁϳԹÏ: the First Year Program, the Common Read, and the Independently Designed Major (IDM).

The Office of Academic Programs:

  • Administers the first-year curriculum (CC100 & CC120) and partners with the Writing Program to support Writing Intensive and Writing in the Disciplines courses.
  • Provides pre-advisement for incoming first year students regarding their CC100 & CC120 courses.
  • Trains and supervises more than 40 undergraduate peer mentors who work with first year students to ensure their successful academic transition to the CC.
  • Partners with the Crown Faculty Center to offer a range of workshops, learning circles, and individual consultations regarding inquiry-driven, experiential, and transitions pedagogies.
  • Oversees the campus Common Read book selection and ensures students have access to a wide range of courses, programs, and other opportunities to engage with its themes.
  • Supports students at all phases of the Independently Designed Major, from initial application, to thesis presentation, to graduation.
  • Conducts research in the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL).
